FAQs
Our Fabrics & Process
What fabrics do you use?
We work with beautiful, plant fibres including linen, khadi cotton, handloom cotton and silk cotton. They are sourced responsibly and dyed with plant and mineral based pigments. We are so proud of our fabric and you won’t find these patterns anywhere else!
Are colours consistent?
Because we use natural dyes and artisan printing, some variation is completely normal and part of the charm. No two pieces are ever exactly the same and colours can vary slightly between batches due to so many fabrics like weather, particular plant yield etc. We know this can be a difficult thing to get used to but we think it’s worth it for truly sustainable, natural clothing.
How often do you launch new collections?
It depends! We create trans-seasonal clothing to promote a slower, more intentional way of shopping but we might introduce 2-3 small batches a year. Keep an eye out!
Ordering & Sizing
What’s the difference between Made‑to‑Order and Ready‑to‑Ship?
Ready‑to‑Ship pieces are in stock and typically dispatched in 2–4 business days. Made‑to‑Order means we create your piece bespoke for you based on your body measurments and these pieces are therefore not in stock. Please allow around 2–4 weeks before shipping. It’s slower, but worth the wait!
How do I choose my size?
You can find our Size Guide with measurements and tips for a relaxed, comfy fit. Still unsure? Drop us a message — we’re happy to help.
Garment Care
How do I care for my Mahika Kala pieces?
Gentle is best: hand wash or machine wash cold on a delicate cycle with mild detergent, and not too often! Dr in the shade to preserve colour, avoid tumble drying. For more details take a look at our Care Page.
Shipping & Returns
Where do you ship?
We currently ship across the UK, Europe, and internationally. Shipping times and costs vary — you can view them all here.
How long will delivery take?
Ready-to-ship: 2–4 business days (UK)
Made‑to‑order: 2–4 weeks to make + delivery time
Can I return an item?
Yes, you can return ready-to-ship items within 14 days of receiving them, as long as they're unworn and in original condition. Made‑to‑order items are no returnable unless faulty. You can read our full Returns Policy for the nitty gritty.
Payment & Gift Cards
What payment methods do you accept?
We accept all major credit and debit cards, PayPal but we do not accept Klarna at the moment.
Do you offer gift cards?
Yes we do! You can send someone special a Mahika Kala gift card here — they never expire.
Sustainability & Values
Are your garments sustainable?
Sustainable is a layered word and we don’t take it lightly. There are ways in which we aren’t perfect of course, but sustainability is at the very centre of what we do. We use plant dyes, on plant fibres, work in very small batches, championing artisan craftsmanship and female empowerment as we go. Our pieces are made to last and be loved for a long time. Feel free to check our sustainability report for more details.
Where are your garments made?
Fabric is dyed and printed by our artisan partners in northern India. The garments are then cut and sewn by Emily, in our Bristol studio or by our amazing female partners Saheli Women.
Community & Contact
What’s the Sundae Club?
It’s our gorgeous 2025 collection featuring gorgeous new handloom checked and stripe fabric, silk cotton dresses and stripes galore.
How can I get in touch?

Can I visit your studio or try things on in person?
Yes you can - with an appointment! I love meeting you lovely customers and welcome you to my studio but as it is a working studio I am not always open to visitors - please book in advance. The alternative would be to visit one of our amazing stockists including Atwin in Norwich and Prior in Bristol.
